About FLE

Family life in Kenya has been on a spiral downfall.

Heightening inflation, globalisation, conflicts, wars, and modernity have had a significant impact on the family and more so parent-child relationships. Further, advances in technology have presented uncensored sources of learning for children, the result being changes in communication channels between parents and children. It is within this confusion that a parent is still expected to raise their children well, mold them to be future citizens and leaders while ensuring that they acquire social skills necessary to foster positive interaction with their environment.

To address these, and many other issues in Kenya, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has designed a Family Life Education Programme (FLE) dubbed ‘Cradle to Grave’. The programme would be delivered through various course such as Nuggets to Healthy, Happy Marriages and Family Life Education; Understanding critical needs of children through stages of Development; Sharpening Gender Roles and Entrenching godly/ societal values in Family; Proofing children against vices in schools and society; and Understanding Marriage Cycle/ stages & Challenges. Further, the Family Life Education Programme will support discipleship through outreach and mentorship programmes within the church and community.

In addition to this, underlying the practice of Family Life Education (FLE) is a basic belief in the importance of family living as God intended, respect for people and recognition of people’s ability to take charge of their own lives in satisfying ways. Through the intended educational programmes, FLE will make an important contribution towards strengthening families to fulfil their significant roles as the basic unit of society. FLE is a means towards addressing family challenges and problems that the community is facing today.
